Kathryn "Katie" Orscher (born June 18, 1984 in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American figure skater who has competed in singles and pairs. With partner Garrett Lucash, she is the 2005 American.
Biography[]
Orscher was originally a singles skater. She retired from singles in November 2000 to compete in pairs. The highlight of her singles career was winning the bronze medal in the Junior level at the 2000 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
Her pairs partner from 2000-2006 was Garrett Lucash. The team was brought together because Garrett was searching for a new partner, and he remembered Katie. They are both clockwise skaters and only a small portion of skaters skate in that direction. They skate at the ISCC in Simsbury, Connecticut.
In 2005, they won the gold medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. The 2005-2006 season was a difficult one for them as Katie broke her foot over the summer and they missed a great deal of training time going into their most important season ever. In January 2006 at the US National Championships in St. Louis, MO they led the pack in Pairs after the short program. After the long program, they dropped to third and missed out on making the US Olympic team by .66 points. Orscher and Lucash retired from competitive skating in 2006.
In July 2008, Katie Orscher teamed up with a new partner: Ivan Dimitrov of Bulgaria. The pair began skating together on July 21 after Dimitrov relocated from Virginia to Connecticut for the partnership. On December 5, 2009, the pair appeared in a small event called "Circice", which was performed for the employees of General Electric. The event was held at Harbor Yards in Bridgeport, Connecticut. They are expected to make their competitive debut for the 2009-10 Season.
